Our Technical Content team within our Customer Education department is made up of writers, producers, content strategists, and specialists who maintain our public knowledge base, developer guides, and education playlists on YouTube. We share a love for learning and a passion for helping our users succeed by simplifying complex concepts or instructions in an easy-to-understand way. We collaborate with many teams across Mailchimp to create exceptional educational content so our users can do their best work. 

We are looking for a Scriptwriter to join our growing team. An ideal candidate is a skilled, empathetic, and creative person who can research and simply explain complex concepts, for a variety of visual media. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with technical writers, videographers, and product teams to create original scripts to use in educational videos 
  • Maintain scripts in-line with new product releases and updates
  • Research and test new features
  • Participate in brainstorming fresh, new ways of providing educational content to users
  • Collaborate with content strategists using metrics to measure success of existing and new assets 
  • Develop job-specific skills and learn company policies and procedures to effectively complete standard assignments
  • Proofread and provide light copy editing for compliance with legal, style, and other company or team standards 
  • Collect content for product and service feature information, making sure that information is relevant to the specific feature and not redundant
  • Create and manage content/scripts through the entire production process. 
  • Follow SEO guidelines for all content 
  • Complete scripts for Flash modules: demos, tours or product choosers
  • Participate in content planning which includes coming up with ideas for new content, seeking out information about upcoming product releases, and auditing for tolling needs
  • Assist with creating and maintaining relevant style guides 

 

Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience with scriptwriting for vocal and visual performance, ideally in marketing, educational, or agency settings
  • Strong understanding of how the script will be read aloud via teleprompter and used for instructional purposes
  • Comfortable prioritizing, starting, and managing projects independently and with a team
  • Comfortable working on new, changing, and fast-paced projects
  • General technical and business knowledge sufficient to understand all factors affecting project planning, execution, and management 
  • Write, edit and proofread for the web/video
  • Operate within highly-matrixed organizations, collaborating with SMEs across organizational boundaries
  • Working knowledge of industry trends in Editorial, Information Design, and/or Education    
  • Understand SEO best practices 
  • Develop reliable schedules for your own work and successfully delivering content on time, within a high-tech environment
  • Comfortable leaning into an assigned product area, and have the ability to thoroughly explain product main features and functionality 
  • Ability to articulate user need relating to product main features 
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills 
  • Written skills include excellent working knowledge of grammatical principles and application 
  • Demonstrate initiative, creativity, and innovation to drive effective and breakthrough ideas to fruition
  • Create shared vision among business, product, and technology leaders on how the owned initiatives will contribute to the execution of strategies
  • Effectively manage external agencies to write to brand guidelines and style guides as needed
  • Work with Project Manager to propose roadmaps for deliverables that balance short- and long-term business considerations while taking into account user and technical considerations
  • Experience with audio editing software i.e Audition, ProTools, GarageBand, etc.a plus
  • Experience with video editing software (such as Adobe Premiere) a plus
  • Experience supporting the Mailchimp application for our users a plus
  • Experience with voiceover work a plus
  • Production experience a plus
  • Ability to speak multiple languages a plus

  • Assist in identifying skill-set gaps and recruiting, selection and training for Scriptwriters

  • Work on multiple projects with little direction   
  • Responsible for ensuring all deliverables are high quality
  • Understand larger organization needs and take these into account when making decisions

  • Act as a role model for supporting change initiatives and help positively influence team morale
  • Collaborate effectively with and influence peers and more senior individuals to solve complex problems spanning their respective areas
  • Resolve project-related disagreement with informed, rational debate
  • Strong understanding of the current business climate, and applies this knowledge to problem resolution
