Mailchimp’s Statement on Georgia’s Election Integrity Act, SB 202

On March 25, the Georgia General Assembly approved SB 202, the Election Integrity Act. The bill was signed into law by the Governor that same day. Mailchimp CEO Ben Chestnut shared his perspective with employees and on his social networks last week.

Here’s our company’s statement on this legislation:

At Mailchimp, we believe voting should be safe, accessible, and easy for everyone. Over the last year, Georgians struggled to cast their ballots, waited in line for hours during a global pandemic, and faced bureaucratic hurdles with their absentee ballots. We should all be proud voters turned out in record numbers despite these challenges, and we should expect our leaders to respond with pragmatic, sensible solutions. Instead, the opposite happened. If implemented, SB 202 will undermine free and fair elections in our state, and will make it more difficult for people to exercise their right to vote, especially people of color. We know our home state deserves better.

Supporting voting rights and access is part of our civic duty as a major employer. We’ll be looking for opportunities to challenge this law and support stronger voting rights protections here in Georgia and across the country.
