In the Dream House

Written by Carmen Maria Machado

In this innovative memoir, Carmen Maria Machado traces the full arc of her harrowing relationship with a charismatic but volatile woman.

Casting a critical eye over an array of iconic fiction and pop culture, she unpacks the stereotype of lesbian relationships as safe and utopian and explores the reality of abuse in queer relationships. Leavening the dire narrative with her characteristic wit, Machado crafts a wrenching, riveting account that explodes our ideas about what a memoir can do and be.
