MCP server
This searches documentation, not your Mailchimp account. The server answers questions using this site’s published content, so it works without a Mailchimp credential. To let an agent act on your account, call the API directly or use Agent skills.
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets an AI agent discover and call an external server’s tools during a conversation.
This documentation site is itself an MCP server. Connect an agent to it and the agent can search these docs directly from your editor or terminal instead of you copying passages into the conversation by hand.
Ask it what you’d ask a person:
“Search the docs for how Mailchimp scopes OAuth 2 tokens to a single account.”
“What does the Marketing API docs site say about pagination limits on the Reports endpoints?”
“Find the docs page on batch operations and summarize the request size limit.”

Claude Code
Cursor
Add the URL to your MCP server configuration:
Claude Desktop
Open Claude menu → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, then add the server
under mcpServers in claude_desktop_config.json:
VS Code
Add the same server to .vscode/mcp.json in your project:
Restart the client after saving. Each one surfaces a connection indicator once the server responds.
Other ways agents can access these docs
An agent can also read this site directly. Every page has a Markdown
version at its own URL with .md appended, and an llms.txt index lists
those pages at every level of the docs, down to individual sections. This
works the same way on authenticated documentation sites and public ones like
this one.
Searching and fetching solve different problems: the docs-search tool finds
the right page when an agent doesn’t know where to look, and a direct .md
fetch reads a page you’ve already identified without spending tokens on
HTML. Agents commonly use both in the same session. See
llms.txt for the full index format and
how to scope one to just the section an agent needs.
