Introducing The Jump, a new podcast from Mailchimp. Available wherever you get your podcasts.
Shirley: If you've ever dreamed of me, Shirley Manson, hosting a podcast, know this, dreams really do come true. The Jump is an excuse to interview some of my favorite artists about a song they wrote that changed everything for them, like Mike Hadreas from Perfume Genius.
Mike: I had gotten something that was in my brain out in the most fully formed complete way. And when I heard that I was like, "Oh, check that out."
Shirley: Courtney Love.
Courtney: In the last few years, I've wondered if I have anything to say anymore. And that's a really not nice place to be. I'm 54, do I have anything to say?
Shirley: Esperanza Spalding.
Esperanza: I left my manager, I left my agent. Everybody was mad at me. And I was like I don't know what's going on, I just need to play.
Shirley: The beautiful Karen O.
Karen: People think, oh yeah, suppose we did perform like a punk rock song it'd be like raw raw raw. It's not at all.
Shirley: I know.
Karen: What's fuzzy is the vulnerability, you know?
Shirley: Dave 1 from Chromeo.
Dave: I was so ecstatic, and I was like, "You know what, maybe this is real. One of my idols just heard my music, sang on it. Maybe there's something there, maybe this can click."
Shirley: Neko Case.
Neko: I spent a lot of time not worrying about what I had to lose, because I didn't have anything to lose I guess, which is sad on one hand, but also a nice position to be In.
Shirley: And Big Boi.
Big Boi: We started producing because we just thought how dope would it be to create the sound scape to the words of your emotion. You know what I mean?
Shirley: I've been a lead singer my entire career and now I'm a podcast host. Makes complete sense, right? So, here we are, I'm Shirley Manson, and this is the Jump. Listen and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts.
