If you’re always on the go, you can expect that your subscribers are too. As an email marketer, you should create content that works for people who read at the computer and on mobile devices. MailChimp helps you do just that—plus we make it easy to manage your account and gather signups from your own mobile device.
We’ve got features that allow you to tailor content to your mobile readers, and mobile apps that make MailChimp even more powerful for you and your subscribers. MailChimp’s Mobile Lab is constantly improving our existing apps and features, and inventing new ones.
If you have any questions that aren’t addressed here, feel free to contact our support staff at mailchimp.com/support.

Pyow! makes it easy to create QR coupons, send them to your subscribers, and use your iPhone to scan them from anywhere. With Pyow!, you can insert a QR coupon into any MailChimp campaign, specify how many times the coupon can be used, scan a printed coupon or scan it on a smartphone, and even find out how many people used the coupon.
You need iOS 4.0, a MailChimp account and an iPhone 3GS or newer.
To use Pyow!, create a campaign that includes a discount or special offer. Use any template you’d like. Inside the content editor, use our QR code merge tag: QRCOUPON.
QRCOUPON: Inserts the QR code image
The text: “$2 off any coffee drink” is a description that appears when you use the iPhone app to scan the QR code. It’s only visible by the person scanning the coupon, not by the email recipient.
The numbers: In “5:2,” The “5” is how many times the coupon can be used by that recipient. You might set a high number if you want to promote coupon sharing. The “2” is for setting the size of the QR image. 1 is small, 10 is ginormous.
Here’s what the campaign looks like with the merge tag included:
Send the campaign. When your customers receive the coupon, they can print it out or just show it to you on their smartphone.
Pyow! will sync with MailChimp and tell you if it’s valid. We’ll also show you how many uses remain.
Next time you visit MailChimp, we’ll show you how many times the coupon was redeemed as a click in your stats.
Chimpadeedoo
Chimpadeedoo is MailChimp’s signup app for the iPad. It collects email addresses and stores them locally on your iPad. Even if you’re not online, Chimpadeedoo will automatically push the addresses to your MailChimp list the next time you connect.
You can customize Chimpadeedoo to suit your brand—choose from 10 different backgrounds or use your own. Pick your font and button style, write your own copy, and connect the form to any MailChimp list.
Chimpadeedoo’s app settings are hidden in the upper-right corner of the screen. Setup is easy, and you can use password protection for added security.
Subscribers can enter their own information at your store front, booth or trade show.
Chimpadeedoo is available for free on the app store.
Chimpadeedee
Don’t have an iPad? No problem—you can collect signups on location from your computer, using our Chimpadeedee desktop app.
It works just like Chimpadeedoo, and you have access to all the same features.
Chimpadeedee is available for download from MailChimp Labs
MailChimp’s signup apps are perfect for restaurants and stores with cashregister service, companies that attend trade shows, crafters and artists who attend fairs, bands and more.
Here’s Chimpadeedoo in action at Naked Pizza in New Orleans (mmmm, pizza):
Mobile Friendly Campaigns
MailChimp makes it easy for your subscribers to read your campaigns on mobile phones. Our mobile features allow you to tailor content specifically to those subscribers and make sure your campaign looks good on smartphones and desktops alike.
Mobile Signup Forms
MailChimp will automatically generate a mobile version of your email campaigns and send them to subscribers who prefer to read on mobile devices.
To enable this feature, make sure your signup form has this option. Go to
Lists > Forms > Settings > List Name And Defaults
and check the box that says
Let your subscribers pick an email format.
Your images will generally appear smaller, and we’ll stack your content into a single column so it’s easier to digest on a smartphone.
Mobile Versions Of Campaign Archives
Every MailChimp campaign has a permanent, unique web address in our Campaign Archive. This is where we link from the campaign header text:
Email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser.
MailChimp automatically translates your campaigns into a mobile friendly version when viewed in a mobile browser. So when someone using a mobile device clicks to view an email in their browser, it’s optimized for them.
Preview Mobile Campaigns
MailChimp’s Inbox Inspector shows you what your campaign’s going to look like in all the major email programs and on mobile devices, so you can be sure your campaign’s mobile friendly before sending.
MailChimp’s Mobile Templates
If you know that a lot of your subscribers read your newsletters on mobile devices, then you might want to use one of MailChimp’s mobile templates. They’re a little skinnier than most our templates, so they look great on mobile devices.
In the Campaign Builder, choose
Templates > Start from scratch
and select either
Basic mobile
or
Postcard mobile.
Simply plug in your content and send the newsletter, as you would any
other MailChimp campaign.
Your mobile subscribers will thank you later.
API Wrappers
ChimpKit for iPhone and iPad
ChimpKit is an objective-c wrapper for the MailChimp API. With ChimpKit, you can integrate MailChimp functionality, like list subscription, into your iPhone or iPad apps in a few simple steps.
All of the API functionality is tucked into the following classes:
CKList
Managing lists, including interest groups and subscriptions
CKCampaign
Managing campaigns
CKHelperMethods
Miscellaneous tasks like retrieving ChimpChatter and account details
ChimpKit is built on ASIHTTPRequest by All-Seeing Interactive. That means no heavy lifting when talking with a web server. And with ASIHTTPRequest you get a few bells and whistles, like access to progress delegates, cookie support and an easy look at response headers.
To get started, drop the ChimpKit directory into your XCode project. There’s a pre-built signup controller (CKDialogController) you can use to add signup functionality into your app with almost no coding. Just set your API Key and List ID and you’re all set.
We’ve got something for you too, android developers. ChimpBot is a Java wrapper for the MailChimp API, built for use in Android apps.
All of the API functions are available in the wrapper and split up by category in a one-to-one mapping with the API documentation. The corresponding classes are:
CampaignMethods
All API functions available for managing campaigns, including scheduling, sending, sharing and template management.
ListMethods
All API functions available for managing lists, including list fields, interest groups and subscription management.
HelperMethods
All API helper functions are available, including useful tools like stripping CSS from HTML.
SecurityMethods
The security API functions are covered, these currently revolve around API key management.
Under the helmet, ChimpBot uses XML-RPC to communicate with the MailChimp API...All function calls return standard Java objects with data as member variables. The source for ChimpBot is available at
GitHub.
