A Message from Ben Chestnut

Earlier today, Mailchimp Co‑Founder Ben Chestnut sent the following note to Mailchimp employees

Hi everyone,

I have some big news to share with you today. After 21 years as Mailchimp’s co-founder and CEO, I’m stepping down as CEO and moving into a founder-advisor role. Rania Succar, who leads the QuickBooks Money team, will join us as Mailchimp’s new CEO.

I couldn’t be happier with this decision. The main reason I wanted Mailchimp to join Intuit was because I wanted it to become a full platform for small businesses. This company is my legacy–my baby! I want to see it grow up into a world-class business. We’ve been making all the right moves and placing all the right leaders to help our company continue to accelerate. I have always, always seen the potential for our iconic brand–which is loved all over the world– to really win internationally and empower millions more small businesses around the world. Rania is a proven leader who has what it takes to take Mailchimp to the next level, drive critical growth, and impact our customers’ lives globally. I’ve had the chance to work with Rania over the last several months, and she’s going to bring a new fire and passion to Mailchimp that will inspire and engage our teams.

While I’m taking a step back from my day-to-day responsibilities, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll remain on Mailchimp’s leadership team, helping drive product innovation and staying close to this brand I love. You’ll still see me around–at the office, in key meetings, on Slack–just in a different capacity. My role will continue to evolve over time, but some of the things I’m looking forward to are helping recruit great talent, speaking at events, representing the Mailchimp brand in the Atlanta and entrepreneurial communities, and working with leaders to motivate teams and inspire creativity. This is a role that’s inspired by Scott Cook, who is still present at Intuit, and also Bill Campbell, the “Trillion Dollar Coach” who served as internal mentor for leaders at hugely successful companies. I look forward to this new role and the flexibility it brings, and to interacting with peeps in the halls. In a way, I’m getting back to my roots!

You’ll have the opportunity to get to know Rania in the coming weeks, but for now I’ll say she’s going to be an incredible leader for Mailchimp’s next chapter. She has deep product experience, she knows how to drive innovation and get results, and as the QuickBooks Money leader, she has the unique ability to connect all the dots and drive Mailchimp’s performance as part of Intuit’s greater ecosystem.

Building this company has been one of my life’s greatest joys, and I can’t wait to see how this business that Dan and I created grows up into an iconic international platform for small businesses. That’s the journey I set us on about 5 years ago, and I love it when a plan comes together. Over the last 21 years as Mailchimp’s CEO, I’ve developed a strong sense of timing. Now is the right time for me to take a step aside and evolve my role, and Rania is the right leader for this team and our customers at this moment.

To all of our Mailchimp peeps, thank you for your patience and enthusiasm as we throw a lot at you, and please give Rania a warm Mailchimp welcome as she transitions into her new role as Mailchimp’s second-ever CEO.

Looking forward,

/bc
