Transactional Email is a powerful delivery service by Mailchimp that allows you to send one-to-one e-commerce emails and automated transactional emails. Transactional Email plans come in a set number of email blocks automatically purchased each month. For months when you send more than usual, you can purchase top-off emails for your Transactional Email plan.

How it works
When you add Transactional Email to your account, you’ll select the number of email blocks to purchase at the beginning of each monthly billing cycle. Top-off emails can be purchased anytime to help adjust for individual months with extra sending. Like regular monthly blocks, top-off emails come in blocks of 25,000 and expire at the end of your billing cycle.
If you’re purchasing top-off emails every month, it may be helpful to change your Transactional Email plan to increase the number of blocks automatically purchased each month.
About top-off email settings
When you add or change your Transactional Email plan, you’ll choose what happens when your email sends are low. This setting also determines how you’ll purchase top-off emails. Select a threshold and select what you want Mailchimp to do when your transactional emails drop below the threshold.
When making a selection, keep in mind that sending will stop if your emails run out, and unused top-off emails expire at the end of the billing cycle.
I want to automatically purchase
Choose this option to automatically purchase top-off emails when remaining emails drop below the threshold. This option is best if your priority is to minimize sending disruptions.
Note that automatic purchases are unlimited.
I want Mailchimp to send me an email
Choose this option if you’d prefer to manually purchase top-off emails. When your remaining emails drop below the threshold, Mailchimp will notify your billing contact with an email. Then, you’ll log in to your account to manually purchase top-off emails. This option is best if your priority is monitoring payments.
Note that this could result in interrupted sending if your emails run out before more are purchased.
Purchase top-off emails
To manually purchase top-off emails for your Transactional Email plan, follow these steps.
- Click your profile icon and choose Account.
- Click Billing, then click Monthly plans or credits.
- Scroll to Transactional Email Plan.
- Click Purchase More Emails For This Month.
- In the Select the number of emails you’d like to add drop-down, select the number of additional emails you’d like to purchase. Like monthly blocks, top-off emails come in blocks of 25,000 and expire at the end of each billing cycle.
- On the Purchase Summary sidebar (you may need to scroll up to see this), enter any required payment information, and click Complete Purchase.
