Use the Analytics AI
The Analytics AI is a conversational assistant built into your Mailchimp account. Ask plain-language questions about your campaigns, automations, audience, and revenue. The agent pulls together your data, surfaces the most important takeaways, and recommends what to do next.
In this article, you will learn how to:
- Find, and open the Analytics AI
- Ask questions in plain language and use starter prompts to try
- Read the agent’s response, including charts, key insights, and recommendations
- Use follow-up suggestions and take action from an insight
- Get more useful answers, and troubleshoot numbers that look off
Before you start
- The Analytics AI is available to paid Mailchimp accounts. You’ll need Admin or Owner permissions to use it.
- The agent works best after you’ve sent your first campaign. Without campaign data, it can answer general questions but won’t have account-specific insights.
- Connect a store to see ecommerce revenue and attribution. Without a store connection, revenue questions may return limited results.
- The Analytics AI is rolling out globally in phases. If you don’t see it in your account yet, check back soon.
How it works
The Analytics AI uses your Mailchimp data to answer questions, surface trends, and recommend next steps. It can analyze:
- Campaign performance, including regular emails and automations
- Audience growth and engagement
- Ecommerce revenue and attribution from a connected store
- Trends across email types, time periods, and segments
While the Analytics AI works, you’ll see status messages that explain each step. For example, you might see “Pulling 30-day campaign performance data” or “Analyzing engagement by campaign type.” These messages help you make sure the agent is track before the answer arrives.
Note
You’re always in control. The Analytics AI recommends actions, and pre-fills details, but no segment, campaign, or change is created until you confirm.
Access the Analytics AI Agent
You can open the Analytics AI from your Home dashboard, the Analytics section, or specific campaign and report pages. The chat box may also appear as an icon in some sections. To open the Analytics Homepage, select Marketing dashboard and Email report, follow these steps.
- Log in to your Mailchimp account.
- From the marketing dashboard, scroll to the Ask anything chat box near the bottom of your screen.
- Click the Ask anything chat box to ask questions.
From other sections of Mailchimp, like Campaigns or Analytics, look for the chat icon or Ask anything prompt wherever it appears. The agent opens in the same conversational view.
AI Disclaimer
AI-generated responses: Responses from the Analytics AI agent are AI-generated and may not always be accurate. Always review the insights, charts, and recommendations before you act on them. To verify any number, open the How it was calculated section in the response to view the date range, data sources, and how each figure was calculated.
Ask your first question
You don’t need special commands or exact phrasing. Type your question the way you’d ask a colleague. Analytics AI understands natural language.
To ask a question, follow these steps.
- Select Analytics AI.
- In the chat box, type a question about your performance, audience, or revenue.
- Press Enter or click the send icon.
Try a starter question
Not sure what to ask first? Try one of these.
- Summarize my campaign performance in the last 30 days.
- Which automations are driving the most revenue?
- Show me trends in my campaign performance in the last 90 days.
- What were my top-performing emails in the last 90 days?
- How has my contact list changed recently?
After you send your question, the agent shows status messages while it pulls and analyzes your data. When the analysis is done, the response appears in the chat.
Review your results
Each response is structured the same way, so you’ll know where to look. Some sections may not appear if they aren’t relevant to your question.
Summary and key numbers
The response opens with a high-level overview. If you asked about the last 30 days, you might see total sends, delivery rate, open rate, click rate, revenue, and unsubscribe rate, broken out by email type.
Charts and visuals
For trend questions, the agent often includes a chart so you can see how performance has changed over time. Charts make it easier to spot patterns at a glance.
Key insights
Below the numbers, the agent highlights the most important takeaways. For example, it might note that your automations are outperforming regular emails on engagement, or that one welcome email is driving most of your automation revenue.
Recommendations
The agent doesn’t just describe what happened. It also suggests next steps, like expanding your automation strategy, investigating a low-performing email, or setting a more consistent send schedule.
How it was calculated
Each response includes a brief explanation of how the numbers were calculated. You’ll see the date range used, how revenue is attributed, and what the agent included or excluded. If something looks off, this section is a good place to start.
Use follow-up suggestions
The agent shows suggestion buttons for what to explore next. Suggestions are personalized based on your last question, so they help you go deeper without having to think of your next prompt.
To use a follow-up suggestion, follow these steps.
- Scroll to the bottom of the agent’s response.
- Review the suggestion buttons. Each button is a question or action tailored to your data.
- Click a suggestion to ask the question, or click an action button to start building.
Action buttons let you take the next step without leaving the chat. For example, you might see Create automation or Create campaign. When you click an action, the agent pre-fills the details based on its recommendation. You can review and edit before anything is created or sent.
Tips for getting more useful answers
- Be specific about time periods. “Last 30 days” or “last 90 days” returns clearer results than “recently.”
- Start broad, then go narrow. Ask about overall performance first, then drill into a specific campaign, segment, or metric.
- Use the suggested prompts when you’re not sure what to ask. They’re tailored to your data and make a good starting point.
- If a number looks off, ask the agent to explain how it was calculated. The “How it was calculated” section often points to a store connection issue, an attribution setting, or an unusual data period.
- Check in regularly. Campaign trends shift over time, and a quick weekly or monthly review helps you spot problems early.
FAQ
Who can use Analytics AI?
Paid Mailchimp users with Admin or Owner permissions can use the agent. The feature is rolling out globally in phases, so it may not appear in every account at the same time.
What data can be seen?
Analytics AI uses your campaign history, automation performance, audience data, and revenue attribution from a connected store. It only looks at data inside your Mailchimp account.
Can Analytics AI answer questions about SMS?
SMS coverage depends on your plan and the rollout stage in your account. To check, ask the agent a question about your SMS performance and review the response.
How far back can I search for data?
Analytics AI can analyze data going back at least 90 days. For longer historical analysis, ask the agent and it will let you know what’s available for your account.
What if my results don’t look right?
Open the “How it was calculated” section in the response. Common causes include store connection issues, attribution window settings, or data from an unusual period like a bulk import. If you still have questions, contact our support team.
Can Analytics AI take actions on my behalf?
Analytics AI recommends actions and pre-fills details, but you confirm every change. Nothing is sent, deleted, or shared without your approval.
Why don’t I see the Analytics AI feature in my account?
The feature is rolling out in phases. If you don’t see it yet, check the Home dashboard and Analytics section again in a few weeks. You’ll also need an active paid plan and Admin or Owner permissions.
Next steps
Once you’re comfortable with the agent, build on what you learn by exploring more reporting tools, connecting your data sources, and refining your audience.
