Mailchimp may collect a value-added tax (VAT) according to jurisdictional requirements. Tax is determined based on the primary contact address listed in your account.
In this article, you’ll learn how to update your tax information and resolve common validation errors in your Mailchimp account.
Add or edit your VAT or Tax ID number
If you have a VAT or Tax ID number for your business, please add it to the billing contact information in your account to make sure your information is correct.
To add or edit your VAT ID or Tax ID number, follow these steps.
Click your profile icon and choose Account.
Click the Billing drop-down menu and choose Billing information.
Click Edit tax settings.
In the pop-up modal, use the provided buttons to let us know how you use Mailchimp.
Scroll to locate the VAT ID section, and input your VAT number in the field.
All set. Thanks for updating your information! Your company's VAT or Tax ID will now display on your Mailchimp receipts. And if you're subject to collection, we'll let you know on your next bill.
Troubleshooting VAT ID validation
Depending on your location, Mailchimp will verify your VAT ID when you save your tax information and again before you complete any purchase. If you’re having trouble saving your VAT ID, there are some common troubleshooting steps to try.
Update your primary address
Your VAT ID must be registered in the same country as your saved primary account contact address. Mailchimp verifies both your primary address and your VAT ID. To ensure that your primary address is not preventing your VAT ID from validating, we recommend updating and validating your primary account contact address before saving your VAT ID. If you already have a primary account contact address saved in your account, re-enter and save it again to double check validation.
Check your VAT ID formatting
Your VAT ID won’t validate if it’s entered in an incorrect format. When you enter your VAT ID, check for common formatting errors.
