Import HTML from Canva to Mailchimp to Create a Campaign
If you've designed an email in Canva and want to send it through Mailchimp, you can export your email design from Canva, import your zip file into Mailchimp and then send your email campaign to your customers.
In this article, you'll learn how to import HTML from Canva to Mailchimp to create an email campaign.
Before you start
Here are some things to know before you begin this process.
- Send a test email in Canva first. Make sure all the design elements are finished.
- Once you import the zip, changes can only be made in Mailchimp by editing the code.
- Importing a zip file from Canva to Mailchimp can only be used by Canva customers with a Mailchimp account.
- Canva users don't need to connect their Mailchimp and Canva accounts.
- The Export HTML feature is available in your Canva account.
Note
The CYO editor is a Mailchimp feature and can only be accessed when logged into Mailchimp. Canva has an Email editor that will allow users to download the HTML to use in Mailchimp.
Export your design from Canva
To export your design from Canva, follow these steps.
- Create your email design in Canva. When your email design is ready, click the Share button.
- Use the Share menu to select the Mailchimp icon.
- Click Download HTML and images. Canva will generate a zip file that includes the HTML file, images, and supporting assets.
- Click Continue in Mailchimp, then log in to your account.
Import file to Mailchimp
- On the Canva import page, upload your Canva Zip. Click Add file to upload. Mailchimp will automatically check that your zip file meets the import requirements. Your file should be under 15MB and should include one HTML file, plus supporting CSS and web-friendly image files.
- Click Continue.
- If successful, you’ll navigate to the Email Checklist page.
- Click Preview to see how your email will look on different devices, then exit.
- Use the Inbox Preview, as available to see how your campaign looks in different email clients.
- Then add your campaign details such as: To, From, Subject, and Send Time on the Email Checklist page.
- Click Send a test email if you want to confirm that links, images, and formatting display correctly.
Edit or update your design (optional)
If you need to make changes after importing:
- In Canva: Edit and re-export your updated design as a zip file.
- In Mailchimp:
- Go to Campaigns, find your email, and select Edit.
- On the Email Checklist, click Edit design to open the Code Your Own builder.
- Select Import Zip in the page header and upload your updated file.
Re-importing will replace your existing content. Previous versions can’t be restored.
Send or Schedule
When everything looks good, go to the header of the Email Checklist and select Send or Schedule.
You’ll then land on the Email Confirmation page, where you can finalize and confirm your send.
Note
If you use Canva, don't add an unsubscribe link or business address to your email. These are automatically added to your email footer for legal reasons.
Next Steps
You can now keep track of your email campaign and view reports. Should you like to explore with more design options you can manage Canva in Mailchimp by integrating your accounts.
