Introducing Your New Audience Dashboard

Your list is now your audience in Mailchimp—and it comes with lots of new insights. Here’s what you need to know.

Your Mailchimp audience is much more than a list of email addresses. It’s your people: your fans, your advocates, the customers who tell the world about your brand and keep coming back for more. And the more you know about them, the better you’ll get at building relationships—old and new—that keep your business growing.

That’s why we’re giving you a new way to connect, understand, and act on your contact data, all in one place.

As Mailchimp evolves into an all-in-one marketing platform, we’re shifting from showing you lists of emails to a more complete picture of your audience as a whole—so you can put insights about your people at the center of all your marketing efforts. Read on to learn more about the new audience dashboard that will help you quickly turn these insights into action.

What’s changing?

First and foremost, if you previously created lists in Mailchimp, you haven’t lost anything. Things may look a little different when you log in, but you can still use Mailchimp in the same ways you always have—and in many new ways, too (more on that in a minute). Here’s a quick look at what’s changed:

  • If you had multiple ‘lists,’ they’re now ‘audiences.’ If you’ve created more than one list in Mailchimp previously, they’re all still there. Under your ‘Audience’ tab (formerly ‘Lists’), you’ll see a visualization of data from one of your lists (the one with the most contacts, to be exact), but you’ll find all your other lists—now audiences—in the dropdown. Need to see all the audiences in your account? Select 'View audiences' in the dropdown.

  • You’ll now view campaigns and reports in the context of one audience at a time. If you have more than one audience in Mailchimp, your Campaigns and Reports pages will show information based on the audience you’ve selected, too—so you can get a holistic understanding of your marketing to those contacts. And if you ever need to view campaigns across all audiences at once, just choose "All audiences" from the dropdown.

  • You can quickly switch between audiences using the dropdown. If you do have more than one audience in Mailchimp, switching between them is quick and easy—just click the dropdown and select the audience you’re looking for. But keep in mind that we still recommend keeping all contact data in one audience whenever possible.

What’s new?

If you’re wondering why we made these changes, here are a few ways that you can start benefiting from this new dashboard right away:

  • Get a holistic view of your audience. With all of your contact data in one place, we’re able to visually show patterns in your data that give you a clearer picture of who your audience is as a whole (it may even surprise you).

  • See new segments you can target at a glance. With this visual breakdown of data (like where most of your fans are located, how often they engage with your emails, and more) you also get ready-made segments you can send targeted messages to—and they're sure to spark lots of new campaign ideas.

  • Take action directly from the page. Best of all, you can send targeted messages right from your dashboard. After all, the foundation of good marketing is knowing who you’re talking to. By thinking about your people—who they are and what they’re interested in—at the start of each campaign, it’s easy to market smarter with more relevant messages.
