Publish a Social Post When You Send an Email
Automatically post to Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) when you send an email, so you can coordinate your marketing efforts and save time. Include content from your marketing email or website, or share an image to promote your brand to your social followers.
In this article, you'll learn how to add a social post to your email.
Before you start
Here are some things to know before you begin this process.
- Make sure you’ve set up the integration for each social channel you want to post to. To learn more, check out Connect or Disconnect Facebook, Add Instagram to Your Facebook Page, and Connect or Disconnect X (formerly Twitter).
- Facebook allows you to post to a Facebook Page only, not your personal Facebook profile. Learn more about Facebook Pages and profiles.
- When you replicate an email that includes a social post, that setting will be carried over to the replicated email.
- To learn how social posts in an email interact with Social Cards, read Enable and Customize Social Cards.
- Auto-posts to Facebook do not pull in Social Card images, but you can add images directly to your auto-post in the email builder.
- Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) posts are available for regular, plain-text, or RSS emails. Instagram posts are available for regular emails only.
- To learn how to post to your social channels without sending an email, check out Create a Social Post.
- X (formerly Twitter) reporting is not supported at this time.
Add a social post to your email
In the email builder, you'll choose your social channels and add content for each post. Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) posts require text, while Instagram posts require an image. You can also create or insert on-brand designs for your social post directly from Creative Assistant.
To add a social post to your email, follow these steps.
- Click Campaigns, then click All campaigns.
- Click the draft email you want to work with.
- Navigate to the Add A Social Post To Your Email section of the email builder.
- Toggle the sliders to choose your channels. You'll need to create and save a social post before you can select a different channel.
- For Facebook and Instagram, click the drop-down to choose a specific page or profile.
In the URL merge field, add the message you want to include with your post.
Here are some things to consider when you add your text.- For Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) posts, we’ll pull in your subject line and campaign
*|URL|*
merge tag by default. Other merge tags in subject lines won’t display correctly, so make sure to remove them from your auto-post. - It's not possible to click or copy a URL in an Instagram caption, so we don't automatically include them in your post.
- For Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) posts, we’ll pull in your subject line and campaign
- If you want to include images in your post, click Add Images. If you want to use a Creative Assistant design instead, or if you want a Social Card to display with your Facebook or X (formerly Twitter) post, skip this step. Here are some things to consider when you choose your image.
- You can add up to 4 images for X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook posts, and 1 image for an Instagram post.
- Animated GIFs work for X (formerly Twitter) posts only and cannot be posted with any other image. Facebook and Instagram posts will display animated GIFs as static images.
- For X (formerly Twitter), we recommend you choose a file smaller than 5MB.
- For Facebook, we recommend you choose a file smaller than 4MB. PNG files larger than 1MB may look pixelated.
- For Instagram, we recommend you choose a file smaller than 8MB. Your image size must be at least 150x150px with an aspect ratio of 4:5 to 1:91:1.
- If you want to use a Creative Assistant design in your post, click Use Creative Assistant to insert designs or access your Brand Kit. For more information, check out About Creative Assistant and Use Brand Kit in Creative Assistant.
- Click Save Message.
Nice job! When you send your email, we’ll automatically publish your social posts.
Next steps
After you send your email with your social post included, follow its performance in your Facebook and Instagram social post report. You’ll see how many people have viewed your post, how many likes and comments your post has received, and more.
Troubleshooting
If you’re having trouble with your social post, here are some things to look for.
- My campaign didn't publish my posts.
Make sure the integration is set up correctly on the Integrations page. If your failed post included your campaign URL, you can copy the campaign page URL for your sent campaign, then send a social post. - My social account isn't an option.
Navigate to the Integrations page and expand the X (formerly Twitter) or Facebook integration options. Make sure the account you want to post to has been integrated with your Mailchimp account or the specific audience that will receive your campaign. - I need to cancel my post.
You can revoke Mailchimp’s access in your X (formerly Twitter) or Facebook account, which may prevent the post from publishing. Delete published posts directly from your X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, or Instagram account.
